Newfiepoo

Newfypoo

Newfypoo

Mix: ½ Newfoundland & ½ Poodle

Size: Approximately 70 – 100 pounds, and can stand 24 – 26 inches tall

Coat: Coat is soft, long and wavy.  Most common coat colors are brown and black.  Low to no shedding.

Newfypoo is also known as Newfie-Doodle, Newfiedoo, Newfiedoodle, Newfiepoo & Newfydoo

*Many people with allergies prefer Poodle mixes as their fur is more hypoallergenic than most dogs (a characteristic inherited from the Poodle)

Newfypoo

A Newfypoo is a mix between a Newfoundland and a Poodle.  They are a very large dog weighing in at anywhere from 70 – 100 pounds and standing approximately 24 – 26 inches tall.  Their coat is long so they will need frequent grooming.  They display a very calm, but playful nature and make great family companions.  They tend to exhibit a loving, loyal, alert and friendly demeanor.  They are very intelligent.  Quick and agile for their size, they will need daily exercise, but do not seem to be overly energetic.  They have a life expectancy of approximately 10 – 13 years.

When considering the nature of the Newfypoo, you must consider the characteristics of both the Newfoundland and the Poodle separately in order to determine the characteristics the Newfypoo may exhibit.

Newfoundland

The Newfoundland is known as “the gentle giant” due to its large size, but calm nature.  This breed has a caring, gentle, and sweet disposition, and is exceptional with children and other animals making them an ideal family pet.  Despite their docile appearance and large size they are still active and will need regular exercise.  As phenomenal swimmers they are able to swim very long distances due to their incredible strength and endurance.

Poodle

The Poodle comes in three different sizes, toy (10” and under, 6-9 1bs.), miniature (10-15”, 15-17 1bs.), and standard (over 15”, 45-70 1bs.).  The Poodle has been cited as being the 2nd most intelligent breed of dog.  Their exceptional intelligence, paired with the fact that they are generally very eager to please, empowers them to excel in obedience training.  They learn quickly and will delight in showing off their new tricks.  Poodles are generally very easy to housebreak.  They are loyal and devoted companions, extremely people-oriented, and crave lots of love and attention.  They are typically calm, good natured, with a sweet temperament, and the ability to bond with all members of their human family.  The standard poodle, in particular, does extremely well in families with young children, while the toy and miniatures fair better with older children.  Poodles do not do well in households where they will be left alone for long periods of time, left outside, or bound to one room of the house.  Poodles have an extremely low-shedding, dense coat which is either curly or corded and should be groomed every 6 – 8 weeks to prevent mats and tangles.  If you should so decide, their coat can also be kept short for low-maintenance.  Poodles come in a variety of colors such as silver, cream, gray, blue, black, white, apricot, red, caf-au-lait, brown, and parti-colored.  The Poodle is oftentimes referred to as the hypo-allergenic dog.  But, while there truly is no such thing as a completely hypo-allergenic dog, they are unquestionably more compatible with allergic persons than other breeds.   Being classified as highly energetic, the poodle, like most dogs, will appreciate daily exercise, such as a walk, play session, or a run at the dog park.

Lily the Newfiepoo!

Photo Submitted by: Alexis 90/30/14

Hi all,
This is a pic of our newfiepoo. (We don’t make a habit of dressing her up, but our niece left the tutu here and I had to see it on her!) We will be breeding her, although we are waiting a year. Right now she is only a year old, so I want to wait until she’s a little older so as not to hurt her. Our plan is to breed her to another newfiepoo to make F2′s. They should be a little more reliable on the wavy fur and less shedding (hopefully). We are looking for the “right” male now. We are also considering breeding her with a full poodle, which will make F1b’s and will really be less shedding but will not be as large ( although I love how big they are!).
Either way, we live in northern NY. So if you’re looking for one and want to wait a year, keep us in your thoughts. Also, if you’re really interested, feel free to email me and note your preference for the father. I love both standard poodles and the newfiepoos, so we’re having trouble deciding which “kid” to add to our family. We also have 2 goldendoodles and all of them are our “children” and even sleep in the bed with us!
One last note, for your planning, although we are a year out from our first litter with Lily, we have decided we will NOT ship puppies. We consider them family and do not like the idea of them being treated as cargo, and we will want to meet each family to make sure they are going to loving families 🙂

Meet Mannix, our beloved 11 month old newfypoo! He is the absolute sweetest and loves water, cuddles, and playing with toys. I grew up with 2 golden doodles so when it was time for a pup of my own I couldn’t imagine a better breed, but Mannix is that and more with his relaxed temperament. We couldn’t be more obsessed with our smart boy and have been since day 1!

My Landseer Newfoundland has been mated to a large red poodle and we will know in 2 weeks if she is pregnant when she has a scan (fingers crossed)
This will be her second and final litter of Newfypoos, both parents have low hip scores and the poodle is also eye tested.
If anyone is interested in one of the puppies then my e mail address is maximum582001@yahoo.com
I live in Northamptonshire UK

I am in the UK and hoping to find a Newfiepoo pup to bring into our family home. I have just about exhausted all lines of enquiry, so if anyone is able to help I would love to hear from you. So.outnumbered@gmail.com . Many thanks. Phil

(oh, and if you happen to unexpectedly be away from home as you are variously at new job/wifes funeral/hospital but would in any case be able to courier over a cheap pup to me if I agree to pay that day, over the phone, then please do not waste yours or my time in responding!)

Hi again everyone.
Ruby had 8 beautiful newfypoo puppies on the 22nd april. She is nothing if not punctual lol.
She had 7 boys and 1 girl. Pups and mum are doing really well. The little girl and 3 boys are preliminarily reserved so we have 4 boys for sale. They are all black with little white markings on chest/toes.
the puppies will be brought up in our home environment with our 3 children under 9.
Ruby is our kc registered beautiful black laid back, perfect example of a newfoundland. lovely sweet temperament, she loves people and children, dogs and cats, Ruby has been tested for cystineria which is clear, I have all of her paperwork
Simba the father is a white standard poodle who was a reserve champion at crufts, he is very elegant and glides/dances like he is in the crufts ring. Absolutely beautiful temperament. He is fully health tested and I have copies of all of his paperwork.
I specifically chose this particular hybrid/cross due to the lovely nature of my newfie put with the elegance and hypoallergenic coat of the poodle, these puppies should have low to no shedding fur.
The puppies will be wormed at 4, 6 and 8 weeks. They will be treated for fleas also. They will be microchipped and have their first vaccination and be fully health checked by the vet
The puppies will also leave with a gift bag which will include…..
blanket,
collar and lead,
bowls
toys,
treats
a few days worth of food
copies of mum and dads paperwork.
microchipping documentation, basically everything they will need to start with.
Thank you for reading.
Call me any time on 01873 880389 we are in south wales uk.

My wife and I have some questuions. We are already “parents” to two aging newfies and we doubt that as WE age (I’m mid 50’s and my wife is early 60’s) we’ll be able to physically care for such a giant breed. So size is a consideration. Do they come smaller than a standard newfie? Also we have issues with the allergy factor. We’ve heard that Golden-Doodles and Labra-doodles are naturally hypoallergenic. Is this true as well for the newfie-poos? Shedding is also a major concern. Before we discovered the Dyson Pet our girlz broke (as in FOREVER) four vacumes. Also, what is the “drool factor?” Can we forego the mandatory drool rag whenever we go out with them?

Reply

Andrea November 25, 2013 at 10:54 am

I’ve never had mine drool or shed so far. 9 month old. he will completely submerge his face in his water dish and drip water around the house that way.

Hi! We raise Saint Berdoodles and are adding Newfypoos to the family! Our Black St Berdoodles look identical to Newfypoos. Same laid back docile attitude and Giant size! Though we are a year from our Newfypoos we are very excited to add them. I used to raise Newfoundlands and LOVE the breed! We are very small and all parent dogs are our housepets! Puppies are born and raised inside! We are focusing on the Landseer NewfyPoo markings. And even hope to maybe have some Bronze ones since my Standard Poodle is a Chocolate and White parti! http://www.bigdoodlepups.com
