*Many people with allergies prefer a Poodle mix dog as their fur is more hypoallergenic than most dogs (a characteristic inherited from the Poodle).

Poogle

A Poogle (also known as Beaglepoo, Beapoo & Beagapoo) is ½ Beagle and ½ Poodle.  It is difficult to tell a Poogle when you see one.  They display many changes in their appearance from puppyhood to adulthood, many times with each looking far different from the next which makes their appearance quite unpredictable.  Their coats can come in a variety of colors, textures, and lengths.  Most are very low shedding with grooming being quite easy if they take after the Beagle, or requiring a bit more care if they take after the Poodle.  These adorable dogs are known to get along very well with children and other animals, are comfortable in most all settings and make a very good family pet.  They have a playful nature, are friendly and outgoing, love exercise, and are very lovable and loyal to their owners.  The Beagle is known for their baying bark, and some Poogles may exhibit this bark as well, however, they do not have a reputation as being problem barkers.  Their average life expectancy is 10 – 13 years.

When considering the nature of the Poogle, you must consider the characteristics of both the Beagle and the Poodle separately in order to determine the characteristics the Poogle may exhibit.

Beagle

The Beagle is a very popular breed of dog and has a temperament that can be described as even and gentle.  This cute and floppy-eared breed is a popular family dog since they get along very well with children and other dogs.  Although spunky and active, they also are not overly hyper and only require a moderate amount of exercise. They are well known for their amazingly keen sense of smell.  But, once they catch a scent, good luck getting their attention, because they become very one-track minded and can be very difficult to pull away.  This can pose issues when training as they get very distracted by all of the smells around them.  However, they are, no doubt, an intelligent breed.

Poodle

The Poodle comes in three different sizes, toy (10” and under, 6-9 1bs.), miniature (10-15”, 15-17 1bs.), and standard (over 15”, 45-70 1bs.).  The Poodle has been cited as being the 2nd most intelligent breed of dog.  Their exceptional intelligence, paired with the fact that they are generally very eager to please, empowers them to excel in obedience training.  They learn quickly and will delight in showing off their new tricks.  Poodles are generally very easy to housebreak.  They are loyal and devoted companions, extremely people-oriented, and crave lots of love and attention.  They are typically calm, good natured, with a sweet temperament, and the ability to bond with all members of their human family.  The standard poodle, in particular, does extremely well in families with young children, while the toy and miniatures fair better with older children.  Poodles do not do well in households where they will be left alone for long periods of time, left outside, or bound to one room of the house.  Poodles have an extremely low-shedding, dense coat which is either curly or corded and should be groomed every 6 – 8 weeks to prevent mats and tangles.  If you should so decide, their coat can also be kept short for low-maintenance.  Poodles come in a variety of colors such as silver, cream, gray, blue, black, white, apricot, red, caf-au-lait, brown, and parti-colored.  The Poodle is oftentimes referred to as the hypo-allergenic dog.  But, while there truly is no such thing as a completely hypo-allergenic dog, they are unquestionably more compatible with allergic persons than other breeds.   Being classified as highly energetic, the poodle, like most dogs, will appreciate daily exercise, such as a walk, play session, or a run at the dog park.

Finn the Poogle!

Photo Submitted: 6/14/13

I adopted a beaglepoo or “poogle” almost four months ago. He is now almost 8 months old. His mother is the beagle and father the poodle. He is black with gray and white socks. He is adorably handsome and am happy to have him in my life. I stumbled on this page during my search for grooming tips on beaglepoos (specifically, haircuts). As I read the comments, I thought my few months experience with one might help those coming here in the interest of adopting one. I don’t don’t know if one breed being the mother and the other the father matters, but just in case, that is why I clarified earlier. Mine (Finn) is a great dog. Some things I chalk down to “puppy behavior”. However the thing that bothers me is his shedding. It is now June and getting quite warm. I am sweeping every other day and finding hair everywhere. It may just be that I have hardwood floors and it is more noticeable, but today I was wiping dog hair off the stove. So I made an appointment for his first haircut tomorrow but have no idea what is the typical “cut” for this breed. I didn’t find much information, so I guess I will do it the way I think it will look best with the hope of minimizing the shedding. He is a very smart dog. We started learning verbal commands with sign language and he picks up really quickly. The beagle in him makes him want to smell EVERYTHING. Sometimes our walks take two or three times as long because he wants to smell the flowers, bushes, trees, whatever it is at the moment. Personally, I find that endearing. Another thing is that he constantly wants to play, which is good. TTYL =)

Wonderful Poogle!

I’ve owned a beapoo/poogle for 8 years and he is wonderful. He is loyal and extremely smart. If his hair is cut every couple months I have no problem with hair. We bring him to the groomer and have him shaved. He likes to be by my side all the time. He is great with kids and is under 20lbs.

I saw my boogle at a pet store about two years ago. She was dirty and her hair was matted. No one wanted her and she was on sale for $100. There was two. The other was her sister and the biggest regret I have is not getting BOTH of them. I love my poogle. She is the greatest dog ever. She is always happy and is perfect size. Not to small but not huge. She is a great bird hunting dog and gets along with my other dog very well. Grooming is super easy even though she does get ticks easily because her coat is wiry and thick. I wish I could add more pictures because I have soo many.

Cookie the Poogle!

Cookie the Poogle!

Our dog, Cookie, is the best dog ever. After puppy hunting for months to find our perfect match, we stumbled across an ad in a local paper for poodle beagle mix puppies. That suited us perfectly as I wanted a poodle, and my daughter wanted a beagle. Cookie’s mother was a beagle, and her father was a miniature apricot poodle. When we adopted Cookie, she was solid black with brown features. As she grew the brown changed to apricot and the black receded. Cookie is smart, loving, devoted and stubborn. She loves all outdoor activity, especially swimming. She knows no strangers and loves to greet people on our travels. She is quick with her tongue, and gives many kisses. Cookie has been a wonderful addition to our family!

We have an amazing 15 week poogle. He is one of the sweetest dogs.He has already learned to ring the bell to go out, as he is so quick to learn. We already have him in a car seat and he is becoming an adventure dogs. He and our other dog are figuring out their relationship as we have a 10 year old who likes to sleep. The cats have taught him the way of the kitty, and he is doing fine with them. He is so loving and really a great dog. Our breeder told us he would be about 12 pounds at adulthood. We will try him in the kayak next summer.

Eddie

Photo Submitted by: Shelley 12/7/15

Eddie is Poodle and Beagle, plus some Daschund, Pekingese and Lhasa Apso, according to a recent DNA test. We got him 2 yrs ago, at 2 yrs old, as a rescue in Palm Springs. He is so sweet, calm and just loves people and dogs! We had to train him to not chase the cat, who is the boss now. Eddie travels well and loves to play and run.

Poppy the Poogle!

This is my beautiful little girl, Poppy. Her mother is beagle and we believe her father is poodle. She has a hound dog bark and runs around with her nose to the ground like a beagle but is a little nervy and timid at times. Probably more of a poodle temperament. She is a loving and loyal little person!

Bear the Poogle!

Photo Submitted by: Lauren 5/10/16

This is one of our two poogles, Bear! His sister Bridgette looks just like him but has slightly longer hair. It is hard to get a picture of them both together because they are so energetic! We supply them with ample amounts of toys because when they can’t find a toy they will play with anything they can find (socks, pillows, boxes). Even though Bear is smaller than Bridgette, he jumps very high so we must make sure to keep things pushed back on the counter to prevent him from jumping up and snatching them. But after they run around and release their energy, they love to cuddle and hang out with us. Bridgette is the sweetest and most polite little girl and sets a good example for her trouble-maker brother, Bear. We find that they don’t shed very much, if any, and they are very easy to keep groomed. I highly recommend this breed!

Daisy Rey!

Photo Submitted by: Jordyn 5/31/16

This is my Daisy Rey, she is 5 months old. Her mother was a poogle, and I’m not sure about her father. She weighs 15 pounds right now. Her hair is wirey, but fluffy at the same time (it almost reminds me of big bird). She is extremely friendly and very active and playful. She is very smart and knows what “no” means, although she tries to push her boundaries every chance she gets. A wonderful and loving dog, I’m grateful I’ve got her every single day.

Hi! Someone they shed a lot. Are they not hypo-allergenic. We just found out our son is allergic to a husky/shepherd mix that was around him. Thank you.

OK, thanks. When they are old enough to leave their mom, where will you be advertising them? I can bookmark this page if you’ll be posting them here.

My family would love to adopt or buy one of these dogs but I am having a hard time finding a breeder. I am leary to adopt one from a shelter because there is no way to know if it is actually a beagle/poodle mix or if they are just “guessing”. Can anyone give me some helpful tips on how to find a poogle puppy? Thanks so much!

If you’re still looking checkout Greenfieldpuppies.com

I just bought a poogle from a friend that is currently selling a litter on there. She’s an excellent breeder; the dogs are socialized with others and children.

I am thinking about getting a poogle. We had two beagles, the second of which passed away a year ago, when she was 18. We love beagles, but have a lake home and want a dog that does not have to be on a leash (it is a safe environment for that). Does a gone know if poogles will run away when off leash?

Tracy,

I have a 1 1/2 yr old poogle and she does extremely well off leash. I can’t say if all poogles are this way, but mine is very well behaved off leash. She won’t get very far from me when walking off leash, comes back to check in and get pets every few minutes, and runs back to me as soon as I call her. She is an adorable dog and loves to be by my side. Hope this helps!

I don’t think it matters which parent is the Poodle, but as far as allergies goes, maybe you would be best off getting a Schnauzer/Poodle mix (Shnoodle) since both the Schnauzer & the Poodle are considered to be hypoallergenic dogs.

Does it matter if the Mother or Father being a poodle if the Poogle would be more dominantly like a poodle? As far as it not shedding or doing a lot of barking. I am allergic so I need to know if the Mother or the Father should be the Poodle. Thank You for any input. It is very much appreciated!
